How to create skin effects Appliers for Cinnamon and Chai

Create your skin materials. You will need a head, torso and legs texture for Chai, and a head, trunk and limbs texture for Cinnamon.

If you want to convert existing textures from your other body appliers to Chai and Cinnamon, you can read about that process here

Same exact principle of converting and baking textures, just applied to a different type of map.

  • Upload your textures to Second Life

Creating the data generation template

  • Find the object “Cinnamon And Chai Texturing Templates (rez me)” in your Cinnamon and Chai Creators Toolkit
  • Rez it to the floor. It consists of 2 linked T-Pose bodies and one prim with 2 pink dots. The dots say Cin for Cinnamon and Cha for Chai. This is to remind you which is which, and you will use it later in this tutorial
The texturing templates out of the box
  • select the 2 body linkset and drag out as many copies as you have texture sets. Eg: if you have 4 texture options that you want to apply, you should drag out 4 times the 2 body linkset. I will do that in this tutorial for Lo Sheen, Hi Sheen, Droplets, Glitter
Dragging out 4 copies to correspond with 4 HUD buttons
  • Once you have made the copies, name each body in each copy with a button name. Be sure to make both the CINNAMON side and the CHAI side the same if you want the same button to apply to either body.
Naming each body as per a HUD button. Remember to name both the CINNAMON and the CHAI the same if you want one button to apply to either body
  • If your sim has no local lights, add one so that you will be able to properly see the texture maps in the next step.
Adding a light to make seeing the materials easier
  • Texture each 2 body linkset with the appropriate NORMAL/BUMP and SPECULAR/SHINY textures for what you want each button to do.

Shift select each linkset in turn and link them together in the edit box. The script that generates the data for this applier doesn’t require a separate root prim.

Linking the entire set together without including the pink dots as the root prim
  • Your template and texturing is done.

Generating the data from the linkset

  • Find the script “Data Notecard Generator – CinnChai Body Materials” in your Cinnamon&Chai Creators Toolkit
  • Drag it into the root prim of the new linkset
dragging the generator script into the linkset to create notecard data
  • Keep an eye on local chat for the data output. Select it and copy it.

Creating the config notecard

  • In your inventory create a new notecard. Name it “Texture Data – name of product range” where “name of product range” is something that will make you remember what is in the notecard in case you need it again. eg: Texture Data – CinCha specular effects 1″ will work fine. Do not include the “” quotation marks.
Creating a new notecard, naming it and pasting in the generated data
  • paste the data output from local chat into your new notecard. Save it. You are done with the notecard – you never have to look at it’s contents again!! It is perfectly formatted for this applier.

Creating your actual HUD

  • Create a new prim on the floor, or rez out one of your pre=made HUD linksets.
  • Make sure you have the same amount of empty prim buttons on your unscripted HUD as you had texture sets – in this example – 4
naming the HUD buttons the same as the body templates
  • name your buttons EXACTLY the same as the bodies in your texture generation linkset. In this example I am copying and pasting the names of the bodies over to the names of the buttons. You could create your HUD first, and then paste the button names over to the bodies.

Scripting your HUD

  • Once your buttons are named. drag the new texture data notecard into the contents of the root prim, followed by the “3rd Party HUD Controller” from your Cinnamon & Chai Creators Toolkit.
Adding the notecard and the script to the HUD
  • The HUD will chat you in local chat

  • Once this is done, you are ready to test your new HUD!
  • If you have followed this tutorial exactly you will have 4 buttons that each do several things when you press them
    • apply 6 textures to 3 zones on Cinnamon and Visage (if you are wearing it)
    • apply 6 textures to 3 zones on Chai and Visage (if you are wearing them)
  • There is no need to make little single function separate HUD’s. This system is very versatile and capable of doing multiple things with one button press provided you have setup the generator properly as per this tutorial.

Checking the applier

  • Wear either Cinnamon or Chai, and a Slink Visage head (this applier is designed to help you create seamless effects when wearing Visage, with only one single click)
  • Either wear your new applier on your HUD screen
  • or drag it close to your body while standing on a pose stand
  • Click the buttons and observe the changes that happen on the body and head!
